Jhoothi Movie DVD

As the title suggests, this movie is about a female liar who proves that lying can often be useful. In the movie, Rekha stars as Kalpana Srivastava, who is a pathological liar. Her older brother, Kamal Srivastava (Amol Palekar), scolds her for her habit of lying and advises her to change or she’ll be in big trouble one day. But she can’t change. Her sister, Alpana (played by Prema Narayan), works for a travel agency and loves a man named Rasiklal (Deven Varma). But her mother has arranged Alpana’s marriage with a doctor named Anil Gupta (Raj Babbar). Kalpana trying to help her sister, lies and tells her mother that the doctor is not of clean character and thus the wedding is called off. Later, Kalpana goes to Dr Gupta to apologise for defaming him to her family and falls in love with him. On subsequent visits to Dr Gupta’s house, Kalpana discovers that Dr Gupta’s younger brother Sunil Gupta (Rasik Dave) is a drug addict. But instead of disclosing this matter, she tries to help him quit. The drug dealer finds out about this and suspects Sunil to be a police snitch. The drug lord’s gang attack Sunil and try to kidnap Kalpana. He saves her from them, but they frame him in a murder case. Sunil is arrested and taken to court, where Kalpana has to do what she does best to save him, which is to lie.

Jhoothi (1985) was released by Shemaroo with a U rating. It is available in DVD format with a runtime of 138 minutes. The movie is in Hindi with English subtitles.
